Phonics Games

Hi everyone! Today I wanted to talk about phonics games.  In our classroom, we play phonics games all the time -- with partners, groups, and independently.  We play phonics games during centers, whole group instruction, as fast finishers, and many other times throughout the day!

One game we've been playing this week is a long u book hunt.  What is it about long u??  It seems like the trickiest vowel sound to master!  For this game, students go through books in our classroom library (using magnifying glasses!) to find long u words.

Another game we've been playing is a bossy r game.  Bossy r is another tricky tricky phonics rule!  The more practice the kiddos can get with this, the better. :)
